La panchina “1000 Papaveri Rossi” prende spunto dalla canzone “La guerra di Piero” di Fabrizio De Andre. Questo brano considerato ormai un vero e proprio inno pacifista, è legato al racconto del maggiore inglese John McCrae che, dopo la prima guerra mondiale, descrisse la battaglia delle fiandre dove morirono centinaia di soldati tra i quali intanto, sbocciavano centinaia di papaveri rossi. Questa vicenda ha reso il fiore un vero e proprio simbolo che ricorda gli orrori dei conflitti bellici che, oggi più che mai affiggono l’umanità. Il progetto “1000 Papaveri Rossi” che unisce il fiore alla “panchina” come oggetto che racchiude in sé l’idea stessa di condivisione e dialogo, vuole essere un autentico messaggio di speranza e pace e un chiaro manifesto contro tutte le guerre.
